Hi everyone! After years of wanting a reef tank and months of intense reading I bit the bullet and got a 180 display. I'm still reading and trying to learn while I'm slowly getting parts in.

Great looking tank. Are you going to paint the back glass? You might have an algae problem being next to that window.

Thanks! Luckily that window goes to an added on garage, so no direct sunlight.

Almost there... Since the last update I've got the plumbing done, heaters on, rodi saltwater in, added some reefsaver rock, live sand, ATO added,..... Still waiting on some pukani I ordered and a canopy. I originally thought I wanted to hang my led lights but changed my mind. I still need to "clean up" my wires in the stand. If the sick fish in QT would hurry up and get better, all will be well. :)

A couple of things that you may want to consider

1. You may want to put a PVC hanger on the center brace of your stand. I wouldn't want that much weight on the bulkheads. They could be added very easily.
2. The metal clamp by your return pump is going to get very rusty quickly. At some point you may want to get a plastic clamp instead.
3. If you put a union after your barbed fitting, it will make doing maintenance on the pump much easier.

Overall the build is awesome, just trying to give some tips that will make things much easier for you down the road.

Thanks
Randy

Thanks!
1. Completely agree. I didn't think about it when I was putting it together. It is on the long list of stuff to get done.
2. The clamps did get rusty. I thought because they were stainless I wouldn't have a problem. Wrong! I actually got some plastic clamps from BRS this past weekend and have them installed.
3. Well now you tell me. Lol I have to figure something out with that. Replacing the clips opened my eyes to the problem.

Is that the Marineland 180DD with a monterey stand?
To be honest I'm not 100% sure. I just know it's a Marineland 180 6x2x2. I ordered a monterey stand but I believe it's a R&J Birch Series. Gotta love the LFS

I have been using a maxijet 600 for the ATO. It dumps too much water too quickly so I have a Hydor 100gph ordered. We'll see how it works out.

Started to clean up the wires under the tank. I got almost everything labeled. I decided to move the ATO controller to the outside. I should have the new pump here Saturday. Then I'll be able to get everything mounted. I'm going to be looking for a new ATO container. The one I have takes up too much real estate.

I got the Hydor 100gph pump in today. It works so much better than the 600gph for the ATO. I also got the controller slapped on the wall.

Got the canopy and the lights mounted. Got the pukani cooked and added to the tank. After 3-4 days in the tank phosphates are at 0.01. I removed all of the filters from the sump and started a fishless cycle with Dr. Tim's and ammonia. At 15hrs ammonia is at 0 I'm not sure I like the aquascape but it'll do for now.

It's been a while since I've given an update, mostly because I'm taking it slow. I added a pair of clowns at the end of May and they are doing great. I've added about 40 various snails and a serpent star. I've QT and added a few more zoa frags- sunny d, bam bam, eagle eye, and maybe utter chaos it's to be determined. I also added a small frag of GSP. I've had a HUGE explosion of acetabularia that I'll blame on caribsea live sand. I'm just now getting into my GHA stage too, that I though I had skipped (no such luck, it's just going slow). I added a phosban 150 reactor and some GFO yesterday. I also got an absolutely beautiful Blonde Naso Tang from Liveaquaria 3 weeks ago. She is about 5-6" and doing awesome in the 40g QT.

She has been perfect. She started eating within 5min of being added to the tank. It took a few days and she was eating out of my hand. She has tons of personality, love this fish.
