Hi everyone,

I hope this is not a dumb question. My Biocube 32 recently finished cycling. So I believe I’m in the stage of waiting for my algae bloom to appear so the tank is clean. Parameters are good.
We added the two obligatory clownfish and they appear to be doing well. They eat like little piglets. We feed twice a day 12 hours apart.

I guess my question is in the realm of maintenance since there is/will be left over food and fish poo.

Would weekly 10% WC and maybe vacuuming the sand bed keep that balance? Or is there more I could do to keep the tank happy?

Thanks!

Feeding is your nutrient import and is balanced by your nutrient export.

Nutrient export can be water changes(vac the sand), filter changes (socks, pads, even sponges in an AIO like a biocube), protein skimmer, algae removal, macro algae growth/harvest.

With a smaller new tank, 10% is good, 20% better (just do an entire 5 gallon bucket? should be good enough).

Keep on eye on your parameters (i like ammonia alert badges for this purpose), but after a couple weeks things shouldn't change drastically unless you make changes (increase feeding or add livestock).

Thank you. Right now, my filtration strategy is Filter pad—>Purigen—>Chemipure Elite—>Chemipure Matrix in a filter bag. since we just added the fish a few days ago, I will be checking the filter floss ever so often. Guess I should enjoy the tank while still pristine :)
