Finally learned how to properly do this “reefing” thing and will be creating my final thread for a long time on a tank build. Lost all my hard work on my recent 180g and am excited to start a new project, take my time, and create the best tank that matches my abilities in this hobby. No skimping on parts, no copping out the easy way. This tank will be epic :)

First picture will be me washing off my new rock. Last time I used bleach clean off the rock, and it took weeks, smelled terrible and worried me, and took so much bleach and dechlorinator it isn’t even funny. This time around I used muriatic acid for two reasons. First reason is I wanted to have the rocks be very white, so white they are reminiscent of a new build and what I’ve learned so far! Second reason being it seemed to be the best option since I live in an apartment now and don’t have tons of space to have rocks laying all over.

A pretty crazy example of a before and after shot of the rock I am using. Mixture of live and dry rock from previous build and some new stuff will be coming in the next few weeks. Getting that new tank fever!!!

Got my fish and coral QT all setup this weekend, and it looks great! Takes up way less space in the spare bedroom as well

Got all the toys for the new tank out and waiting patiently to be put on the new tank. They are all very excited to be on a new bigger tank. Also, talked yesterday with my local shop, Coral Reef Connection, and the tank is paid for and will be processed soon. Should be here around Dec 12th or a few days later. Very excited, actual dimensions will be 72Lx30wx24h and it’s gonna be 1/2” glass around with 3-4” bottom braced. Rimless as well. Technical size is 243 so I’m very excited to say the least. Next step is sell of remaining gear to help fund the lights and sump and build the stand. Anyone have any tips for adding crown mounding to a stand?

this is going to be epic! You sure it's 1/2" for rimless 6' foot tank? Btw, if I had to do it again, that is the exact size I would, do I went 24 x 24...should have gone 30 x 24. Congrats and can't wait to see this build out.

Thanks! Im very excited to see how this build pans out. Im going with Planet Aquariums for the builder who was recommended highly by my local shop. I think he said 1/2" but it could also be 5/8" im not sure. Im thinking 1/2" for the price of what it is.

what are your plans for sump?

No clue yet. Im thinking a 75 gallon DIY build since I'm buying 3 Radion gen 4 pros in a couple weeks. I just cant justify spending money on a custom sump to be honest.

You don't need to justify it...you do what you think is best and what's with in your means...plus thats part of parlaying those years of experience into this right? What type of QT are you planning? Copper, CP, observation? prophylatic type treatments?

These days i think the best way for me is copper and or acting first then observing the effects. I lost all fish that I worked hard with so I will do anything to keep Ich and or Velvet out of the DT. I understand a small amount will always be present, but if i can prevent it I will for sure. Have not done coral QT yet so im thinking just lots of observation and coral RX dipping.

Got corals in the QT with my only fish, clowns. Also, this snow in PA sucks! Was stuck on the road for over 45 minutes today.

Newest update, got one of the 3 radion gen 4 pros I will be adding on this tank, with a diffuser and hanging kit for $500. Stoked on the deal. Light was only manufactured in April and never ran above 40% for a 60g so I’m very excited :)

Finally got the old tank all moved out. Chores for the rest of this week will be

1. build stand frame
2. Add crown molding to stand
3. Once I get my new dry rock, hit it with some Muriatic Acid,
4. Wait patiently for new tank :)
