i don't think it really matters, i really don't see how one can change it, as chad said, i just screw them in as far as they'll go.

i just screw mine in also. I have heard that different positions affect the lighting??? but never really fooled around with it.

supposedly its up.......but i think i read that the nipple is just a byproduct in the manufacturing process.....i.e. doesn't matter

I've played around with my SE MH bulbs before, and if they're screwed in all the way you can't change if the nipple is up or down. The whole concept that it will affect the light output seems odd to me.
