If using 0-1 ppm tds water from an ro/di, that is not a source of nitrate.

Nitrate comes from foods. No need to look further.

We have fairly high nitrate levels in our home water. But - your comment made me think of a question - (you don't have to go into great detail) - but - it might be helpful to mention what's measured by TDS and what is not.

Any charged ion is detected, including nitrate.

But suppose that you have the epa recommended max level of 10 ppm from your tap. It is rejected reasonably well by the ro, so let’s say down to 1 ppm max. Then the di gets most of what remains. Then it gets diluted by a factor of 50-100 when used for top off.

I just cannot imagine it is a significant source of N relative to the many ppm per day from foods.
