NO3 high, stable PO4

Hello, all

As title suggests, recently, since tank move (5 weeks), I have been struggling with high NO3. Just curious as to what it could be so I can work backwards from there. I feed a single cube of PE Mysis a day, so I don’t believe heavy feeding is my issue here. I currently carbon dose with npbacto pellets via reactor, and synbiotic salt. I perform a 5 gallon wc on Mondays, and another 5 gallon wc on tuesdays— 10 gallons a week, 25% total for my 40b. Vacuum sand once a week. Recently this week installed a protien skimmer. Mostly all corals look happy still, no excessive algae etc. but I am a man of range and would like to see the value a little lower within 5-10ppm.

I know nitrates and phosphates can be limiting to one another. My phosphates stay around 0.06-0.03ppm, and nitrates around 25-30ppm as of recent. I will post screenshots of test results for further understanding.

***have had to redial in my alkalinity due to inconvenient tank move and lack of proper saltwater.

I have seen a slight decline in NO3 values, so this really isn’t an emergency to me. But would greatly appreciate to be informed upon the limiting relationship to nitrates and phosphates!! I believe I’m on the right track with just doing water changes, but other opinions are valued and considered:)

I should also mention that my nitrates were a stable 5-10ppm before the move. And were around that 10ppm mark when I originally moved it, then suddenly climbed. I did infact change out my sand as a part of the move, maybe lost a lot of bb? Although bb produces the NO3 anyway… consensus unsure
 
Having an unseeded sand bed can contribute to your nitrate buffering. Try adding some live bacteria or products like microbacter 7 to seed more nitrifying bacteria.

Edit: depending on your coral stocking these elevated nitrates might not even be an issue if you’re not getting unwanted algae
 
I doubt any bottled bacteria product will actually lower nitrate.

Nitrifying bacteria can work against you by rapidly converting ammonia to nitrate, which will make it harder for corals to utilize N.

The current nitrate level is fine. If you really want to lower it, you can continue carbon dosing.
I run a refugium and skimmer. My nitrates are usually 2-6. When I start dosing microbacter 7, they’ll get down below 1.

All LPS currently, receiving 5 acros the 22nd so these higher nitrates have been causing me a little worry.

Yes, I mentioned that the bb will only produce more as well. +1 on continued carbon dose

Acros can also do great with higher nitrate.

You can always lower it in the future. The current level will not kill any of them. :)

Yes most certainly. Values are trending down slowly so I plan on eventually over time seeing them lower to desired range. Was more curious as to why this is happening in my tank given my maintenance routine, light feedings, etc.

So you transferred all the corals and rock to a new tank and just used new sand?
 
I moved the whole tank 100mi. Just new sand
If I had to guess, I think there might be a tiny bit of nitrite that is causing a small interference.
