Trying to get some nitrates under control
Working on setting up a fuge but for now was going to try some nopox

What is the risk to expensive tangs? Not to mention my favorite pets let alone them being expensive

Is there a risk if dosing as recommended or even slight under recommended?

I know it can deplete oxygen if not careful

Thanks

If you overdose carbon it can cause a bacterial bloom which will suck all the oxygen out of the water, that's about all I can think of that might harm your fish, I carbon dosed vinegar with no fish related issues

Make sure your protein skimmer is working well..
I have used nopox in past no ill effects on live stock..start slow and make sure to test water before and after.it took my nitrate levels to go down about 2 weeks..nopox worked great for nitrates but not so much on phosphate.. hope this helps...

When you say you are trying to get them under control... how high are we talking here?

I’m using nopox right now to get my nitrates down before I restart my refugium with no effects to my 3 tangs. I started using it as like @redfishbluefish suggested and started with a 1/3 dose week 1 then 2/3 dose week 2 and if needed full recommended dose week 3.

But my monti is pissedoff for some reason
25ppm on nitrate is a little high, but I wouldn't think to a problematic degree. If you are planning on a refugium with chaetomorpha you should get good growth provided there is adequate iron, strontium, and Iodine. I believe these are the elements that are beneficial to healthy cheto growth. As it grows the elevated nutrients should begin to fall. Natural means of exporting nutrients is always best!
