This may be off the topic a little!...I dosed NoPox only 2 mons...! the reason is:
My initial No3 level was > 16ppm and PO4 ~0.12ppm. After 2 mons dosing 12ml/ d then reducing to 5ml/d according to direction, No3 dropped to 0.7ppm . I then stopped dosing for 3 weeks to prevent No3 may reach 0 ppm! However, the No3 level continues dropping and today NO3 is 0.25ppm ( Red Sea algea test kit).
PO4 level is unchanged still 0.12ppm!
- 150g mixed reef.
- Cheato growth
- Ca 460
-Kh 10.2
- Mg 1400
My questions: should I stop or countinue dosing Nopox with smaller portions?
Why does NO3 continue dropping and no effect on PO4?
Thanks

I stopped wasting money on nopox and bought Quantum nitrate remover both high range >15ppm and low range which is for <15ppm and bang nitrates are now in check.

is the diy nopox dosage the same as nopox?
I think nopox dosage is 1ml (or is it 1-2ml) per 25 gallon?

Dosage depends on nitrate level

DIY Nopox is probably close to the real thing, but I imagine the real thing has a few extra bits in it as well. If you watch this video he goes into detail about how just using vodka or vinegar alone can be dangerous over time. It could be a marketing ploy for sure, but it seems to make sense to me.

I think it would be the same with nopox if just dosed without testing.

I dose it daily in my 65 gal reef over the last year and a half. Not a lot, just 3ml a day. I feed heavily and have a heavier fish load. I also have a macro algae reactor that churns out chaeto like its nothing. Phosphates range between .01 and .09 depending on the feeding that week. You just need to be careful early on and dose very small amounts till you figure out what works for your tank. As a lot of things come into play, age of your tank, size of tank, fish load, inverts, feeding and a couple others. Only downside to dosing it daily, is your system becomes necessary to always dose it. Where you can get away lowering this parameter using other methods. But this is what has worked best for me.

So I was thinking this would make a good stand alone doser. Thoughts?

I have been using nopox for about 3 yrs now and it keeps the nitrate levels between 2 - 5 despite the fact that my tank is rammed with fish and coral.
I use about 3ml daily

is NO3 0.25ppm to PO4 0.12ppm considered unfavorable ratio?
should I raised NO3 level up or lower PO4?
anyone recommend?
Thanks

Looks like good levels but if it stays that low, you might want to consider dosing amino acids.

Well I've been dosing 3 mL per day to a 65ish total water system. PO4 is undetectable, but I assume there are still readings in the ppb range. NO3 is running 1 ppm. I started dosing 2 ml ea of Red Sea Reef Energy A and B. The corals have responded well. Much puffier and more PE. They have also began to color up quite brightly. I'll keep you guys posted.

It seems your PO4 responses to Nopox dosing. mine is not, staying at 0.12ppm from beginning.!
