Hey all! I added a YWG to my tank Friday morning. The fish was purchased directly from Dr Reef’s Quarantined Fish. When I turn the lights on, the fish spends hours chasing its reflection in the glass, and will occasionally perch himself on the overflow guard. It spends a fair amount of time swimming high in the water column, too.

Is this pretty standard for a new YWG?

interesting. My YWG found his spot almost immediately and stays within a radius of it; never looks at the glass that I've seen. I don't even think it's ever even explored the other half of the tank! lol

My YWG explored for a bit but finally settled into his environment. More so when I got him a buddy.

Here’s a video of the YWG perching on the guard. The fish will hang here for 15 - 30 seconds and then go back to swimming.

Here it is swimming towards the top and front of the tank. I’m only worried because I read about these fish being primarily bottom dwellers, and this fish is anything but.

Mine took some time to get settled in. He and his pistol buddy have made a series of tunnels under my rock. I remember meep had similar behavior when I first got him.

There’s all manner of nooks and crannies where it sets itself up at night. It’s really only when the lights come on that the YWG swims along the glass and in the water column. I’ve just shuffled some rocks around to try and create additional spaces, though!

He may be just scoping out the place gauging it out. Lol

I added a YWG today too and it went right into the rocks and I haven’t seen him since. I’m afraid it’s going to be a type of fish that I won’t see much.

What kind of sand do you have ? The grains look big and rough; I wonder if it’s not too abrasive for him ?

Love the real liverock tank you got there!

I had a YWG for like 15 years and every time I set up a new tank it would swim up and down the corners of the tank and all around the top, eventually it will settle down IME.
This is comforting to hear, thank you!!
