Normal Hammer Retraction?

Is it normal for hammers to look like this and show so much skeleton when they close up for the night? I don't think I normally see this much skeleton on my green hammer or frogspawn, but this is how my copper hammer looks. I also don't normally take pictures of the corals closed up, so I can't go back and look.

1320 Mg
8.9 KH, usually closer to 8.6
8.0pH
50 nitrate
1 phosphate

Phosphate has crept up a bit on me, getting more rowaphos. Everything else has been stable.

I like a higher mag level myself, I keep my level at 1440.

Just remembered I have Phosphat-E so I started dosing that tonight. I'll slowly dose over a few days to move the tank slowly.

What did you end up doing to correct your hammer? I have a copper hammer behaving similarly. My green hammer is doing well. I have:
Mag 1310
Ca 420
Ph 7.9
Alk 10
Nitrate 5
Phos 0.5

I have phosphates down around 0.2 to 0.3, nitrates down to 30 to 40. It's not really getting better or worse. So not sure what to do. I recently took it off the rocks and moved to to a dimmer spot to see of maybe it needed a break. We'll see.

The hammer perished unfortunately. To make matters worse i seemed to have developed a case of velvet. Lost three fish a week later.
