i think this is the right thread. i saw this https://www.saltwateraquarium.com/v...56dd549)&utm_medium=email&utm_source=omnisend

it caught my eye, i used to use that media in my fresh setup, i fiddled with all kinds of media in the sump, i never saw any improvment in anything. even at the beginning, when i ran the sump empty. once my tank cycled, i NEVER saw anything but Nitrate again. and the media does collect junk inside the wheels, but not bad. and not bad enough to bother cleaning it, the oustide stays cleaner from the tumbling.

Sorry, I didn't quite catch that—did you buy this reactor? I’m actually looking at the 220-gallon model. I’d be interested to know if it works the way the sellers claim.

i didn't buy their model, but the media is used heavily in freshwater hobby. there are a lot of DIY versions online. when i came to salt, i noticed noone used K1 media which surprised me. then i just saw that product being promoted. i think it would work as claimed based on my experience. i ran it for years. i never had to clean it. i just never saw any benefit from it in my tank. its a home for bacteria, semed like the other surfaces provided all the needed surface area, and i had it HEAVILY stocked with discus and dither fish

I think this is kinda the same idea as the donavans nitrate destroyer or bio pellet reactors. My dnd was the greatest thing I did for my tank

never heard of it, i'll look it up

I watched the video about this, and I will say that if true, if high end koi keepers use something like this, it at least warrants learning more about it.
IIRC it came for europe from the sewage treatment technology. i have a lifetime supply of the media, i didn't realize how much a cubic foot would be, i bought two!!!
