last night was my wife’s birthday so her mom, grandmother and aunt came to celebrate. As we were wrapping up with cake I heard a sharp cracking noise followed by a nightmarish rushing of water.

If I’m looking at the tank it was right around the curve on the front left side. I can’t tell if it started at the top or bottom as the crack runs the entire length.

The only silver lining is that we were home so I was able to save all livestock and corals and about 15-20 gallons of water. About 15 gallons sprayed all over the room but since we were there we were able to clean it up before it had time to soak in.

I currently have everything in a rubber maid and went out and got a Biocube 32 led this AM (that’s the best I could find since I didn’t want to spring for a RedSea. I’m wondering if I should write Innovative Marine or if it is a waste of breathe. The tank must be 5-6 years old and I don’t have any purchase documentation, only the serial number on the side of the tank.

I couldn’t believe this happened after I had the tank all set up and rolling how I wanted it. This is absolutely worse case scenario.

My immediate conundrum is getting everything into the new tank. I think I was able to salvage about 30lbs of LS but may just go bare bottom. I’m also trying to get enough water mixed so I can supplement with the water I salvaged, where all of my livestock is currently situated.

Very sorry to hear that, glad your livestock was saved though. Im shocked yours lasted that long honestly. I used to work at an LFS years ago and I heard about pretty much every curve corner glass IM tank blowing out from the front corners. One customer even got a brand new 24 gal long replaced for free after his first one blew out..... the 2nd one blew out a month or two after he set it up. Needless to say he went to a jbj 30rl afterwards and has had no trouble since. I think IM nearly went bust during that time. And if you notice, their current catalog has strongly shifted away from bent corner glass designs.

My heart sank for you when I read this.

Very sorry to read of this for sure but so glad you were able to jump right on it and into to action so quickly Norman's_Tank.

Good job on being prepared and level-headed for this true emergency. I'm certain many of us including myself has had a tank failure and know what you've been through. It sucks Norman but you did a great job, good sir.

Hope the family is well and they too should be proud of you.

Now I’m just trying to figure out the transfer from Rubbermaid’s. Here is where I’m at;

I got a biocube32 yesterday and got it filled up with water and is mixing. Not sure I salvaged enough of my livesand or how it did in a bucket over night. I’m worried that the LS is a little less than I need and maybe not all that alive anymore.

My plan is to start to transfer tonight or tomorrow. I figure between the LR and water I was able to save, I should have 15 gallons to remove from the new tank. I’m hoping my live rock (30+ lbs) and the 12 or so gallons of water that come with them should be enough to keep my Params Stable against the water with the questionable sand. I’ll also get another 5 gallons of water mixed and ready to go and will follow up with a WC the next day.

Well...figured it was time for an update. In hindsight I am extremely lucky that I was home and I had enough buckets/resources to save EVERYTHING. I literally didn't lose a single coral or fish. The downside was that I needed to buy a tank ASAP and settled for Biocube32 with LED. The aesthetics of the tank are a big step back and the lighting is not nearly as visually pleasing as the kessils. Not the end of the world.

The good thing is that my tank has been doing well and I have had lots of good growth from nearly all of my corals. I added a sixline and a pepp shrimp and a few corals. Other than that it has been a water change every 10 days, minimal feedings and just kind of monitoring the tank. I think i'll start a new thread for the "new" tank and I am going to have to dust off the old kit and do some fragging soon because my mohawk colony is growing out of control and i'm ready to do some selling/trading!

Hope all is well with everyone here.
