Has anyone modified their Nyos 160 skimmer for a CO2 scrubber? Please post pics or what you did if you have.

I have not done a Nyos but have done a couple of Reef Octopus. I drill a hole in the skimmer cup top and then use silicone tubing to run from the skimmer cup to the scrubber. Make sure the hole in the top for the skimmer cup is outside of the neck of the skimmer or you sill suck up a lot of moisture. I also use the skimmer cup drain to make sure I don't get an overflowing skimmer cup and flood the CO2 scrubber.

On one of my skimmers I get a lot of moisture out of it (larger skimmer) so I run an empty BRS dual reactor (with sponges in it) in between the skimmer and the scrubber to capture excess moisture other wise I was having to empty the water out of the bottom of the reactor every few days. The other tank has a smaller skimmer and I have not had the water issue.

Here are pictures of my setups. The top one goes from top of skimmer through two CO2 scrubber and then back to the skimmer intake. I used two co2 scrubbers as I had an extra and I don't have to change the media as often.

The bottom one goes through the two BRS reactors first.

Is that the icecap scrubber? Did you use the existing fittings it came with and if so what size tubing did you use?

Also what did you use to drill the hole in the acrylic lid? They have specific drill bits for acrylic but I wasn’t sure if that was necessary? Thinking about asking someone to print me a lid with the hole made in it...

I just used a normal drill bit and it drilled very easily. My tops had round holes already. I have Nyos 120 which has long holes. If yours is like that also, I would do a small pilot hole first.

It is an Icecap. I used the existing scrubber. the tubing is silicone 1/2OD and 3/8ID.

I had a 120. I just used 2 smaller diameter tubes which fit into the large end of the slotted holes, then put those into a T to a larger tube that went to the CO2 scrubber.

I did exactly this and have had it running like this for 6+ months. Works beautifully and super simple

EDIT: Apologies, I misread, I’m feeding my CaRx line into the lid, not recirculating CO2, sorry!

Hi,

How much did recirculating increase ph?
Recirculating didn’t increase the pH very much (maybe .1) - it just increased the longevity of the media due to the humidity. Kalkwasser has made the biggest difference for me. I use the IceCap kalkstirrer with a Versa pushing 2 liters per day through it (my daily evaporation rate).

I can't do Recirculation since i am skimming very wet from dosing Aquaforest Pro Bio S and -NP Pro. However, the Intake line for the scrubber is taking fresh air from outside the house and then go straight to the skimmer Intake.
My pH peaks at 8.4 around 10AM drop to 8.2 about 2 hours after lights out 8PM

Which reactor do you have?
The BRS should have labels indicated IN vs OUT.
For the Icecap, the outside port goes to your skimmer intake. The inside port (on the Lid) goes to skimmer recirculation or just ambient air.
