Also I think I have the 250 g2. Someone pointed that out in the beginning of my post!

I will tell you the only roller mat I was able to fit was the reef mat 250. It’s like the second smallest one they make and the thing HARDLY fits. I don’t know if the dimensions of the sump for the 200 are similar to the 250. When I look at pictures of the 2 tanks they look very close in size.

You could try the drop in filter roller tho. The ones that sit right in the where the sock would. I just don’t know how good they perform compared to a little bigger one.

If you do decide to cut the sock part out I’d use some sort of hard wire or maybe some sort of very strong fishing string because cutting it with a razor blade was a pain! They did a pretty good job at siliconing stuff in place . Also, I’d get this part done when it’s still dry.

It is just my opinion but if you decide to do filter roller I’d probably change out the ball valve to gate value. I was not able to keep the water level stable in the overflow. The thing was so loud it would wake me up lol.

Depending where you live might be challenging getting the correct size gate valve. I live in the United States and finding metric parts was difficult for me. I know you could probably use conversion adapter but I chose not to do that. I ordered the parts off amazon and it took forever to get here.

My last tank I used a Clarissa and I think the rolled lasted much longer than the Red Sea ones.

Overall the filter roller is doing well tho. It was a must for me after the last one I owned. In a perfect world I wish the Red Sea may lasted longer or I could fit the next size up in it. I could probably lower the flow through the return pump or divert water through the emergency drain to make the roll last but I’m choosing not to.

Thanks for the reply. I’m going to give the N-Clear M Roller Filter a shot. I found it days after asking for your info. I’m trying to avoid cutting my sump sock compartment since I suck at stuff like that.

I’d try something that I didn’t have to modify the sump first too.

But if you decide to go that route i wouldn’t worry. I am not a diy person either and was able to figure it out .

I know brs sells a kit to remove sump baffles tho. Just take your time and you’ll beable to do it :)

I’m thinking on getting only one. I’m buying the Nyos G2 200 when I get back at the end of the month from my vacation in Norway. I’m planning on 2 Gold Stripe Maroon Clownfish with mixed corals. I’m hoping that’s all I’ll need to handle the bio load along with the skimmer. Since your tank is a bit bigger than mine and the same brand I’m following your thread with great interest. I appreciate your help.

I’m planning on a single Hydra 32. I’ll probably add a baffle to the sump for cheato. I had a 30 gallon tall years ago and put it directly in the tank since I didn’t have a sump. It worked well and help keep my parameters stable and grew like a weed. The aquascaping is what I’m most focused on now. I like the way you got your rock set up. I’m curious how many lbs you bought and what kind. Fortunately for me BRS is a 15 minute drive away.

My rock scape is made up of Marco base rock (just a foundation pieces with a flat bottom) a few foundation rocks (boulders) and shelf rock.

And I used the Marco cement.

Luckily for you can bring back all the rocks you don’t use and pick out pieces that will work best. With the NSA scape (negative space aquascape) you don’t use that much rock. I’d probably say there is maybe 20-30 lbs of rock in my tank.

With the 1 hydra the light might be a little off to 1 side of the tank. The external overflow kinda makes it difficult to mount a light on the glass or you can drill holes in the ceiling or walls and hang it

I like you rock method and am going to proudly steal your idea. I’m thinking of placing the SPS directly in the light path of the 2 pods since I’m probably only getting a couple SPS. But I may decide to go your route with the ATI to give more options. The only thing I am absolutely certain of is that I’m getting the G2 200 (due to space requirements). I’d get the 250 but BRS never seems to have it available. Otherwise, the skimmer I plan on is a simplicity 120DC and the return pump a Syncra SDC 3.0. Other than the tank I’m very open to suggestions.
My problem is I haven’t had a saltwater aquarium in the last 25+ years and the technology has changed, obviously for the better. But the tank I had I was able to keep chemistry numbers stable. The only problem was i didn’t quarantine and developed a massive bubble algae outbreak that was uncontrollable. As I stated earlier, any advice would be well received.

The equipment is really good haha. Very efficient if sized properly.

Just take your time with the cycle.

Don’t get frustrated with the rocks. Sometimes it’ll take days if not weeks to get it perfect but if you don’t think it’s perfect don’t put it in the tank lol. You’ll always regret it.

I think the hydra has enough light to get to the bottom. Can always add another it you need more light. I’m using the ap9x with 2 hard arms (non bendy)

I’m a kessil fan boy. I’m sure there are better lights I just like the shimmer of kessil. I will say the 360x has way more shimmer than my ap9x

Update:

My tank has been running a few months. My fish are all doing well. I have 3 anthias, 6 fire fish ( 3 purple, 3 normal) and 5 blue green chromis) this time around I’m just getting what the local lfs has. I used to get fish imported from a person but decided I’d like to do cheaper easier fish. I don’t have the space for qt’s tanks since uv moved into a smaller place.

Algae has cleared up. I think it was Dino. It was stringy and would peel up in sheets. I was fighting it for a few months and it’s finally gone!

I’ve been going on a lot of trips lately and was super inconsistent feeding. I feed hikari pellets a couple times a day automatically but really enjoy feeding frozen. I bought and hooked up the Ind Af4 frozen food feeder. It was expensive but if it’s going to help me keep my animals alive and more healthy it was money well spent regardless how it performs. I will keep everyone updated how I like the machine.

Now that things are looking better, I’m going to test more regularly and hopefully add some corals after my trip!
