Hey R2R,

Looking for some advise on a new Nyos G2 200 aquarium I just set up. I noticed that the bottom weir bracket wasn't properly sealed and also what appears to be bubbling on the seal of the overflow itself. I'm working with support on the weir issue but I'm concerned about the overflow itself.

First time seeing this so would love few sets of eyes on this. Is this a future issue or normal? Haven't leak tested it yet

Thanks

I’m not quite sure what I’m looking at here… I see the plastic weir was removed from the glass surround, but the line of bubbles isn’t really lined up with the walls of the external overflow box, and the whole back wall is gray…

Further explanation and/or photos might be helpful!

Here is a photo of the back overflow. My guess is where the box is actually glued to the glass and this is the bottom corner of it.

I'm not sure what I'm looking at either with that area haha. I'm thinking as long as the seal around the top is good I should be okay?

Huh! Well that’s an unusual design!

Normally, these external boxes bulkheaded through the tank wall, or are made of glass if siliconed on to a tank wall cutout like this!

— It looks to me like the entire external overflow box SHOULD be siliconed down to the tank wall, but it is peeling off from the bottom-up…

— Is the plumbing attached to the bottom of the overflow box pulling on the box substantially to make it peel like this? Or, is this how it showed up?

Thanks for the thoughts. Yeah I was a little disappointed by plastic overflow vs glass.

Plumbing has no effect on the box and just screws into the bottom.

If it was my new aquarium, I’d consider getting it replaced under warranty for defects in materials or workmanship!

An alternative option would be laying a bead of silicone sealant over the interior of the box where it seals against the tank to give yourself some extra leak insurance (given the very low water pressure in the overflow box, and the majority of the silicone which physically holds the box in place being intact.. )

Good news and got it fully refunded. Great support on that end. Real shame because it is a very beautiful tank except for the blemish.

Time to go with a company that inspects the products before shipping them out.

Take a look at IM systems. I have 4 and am very happy with the quality and price.
