I started ozone on a RSR 350 about a month ago running through the skimmer. I have it on the lowest setting and monitor the orp levels. The clarity of the tank is remarkable.

You need to make sure your skimmer is rated for ozone. We talked about it in the live steam last night. May be worth a watch :)

How does one know if their protein skimmer can handle ozone when the manufacturer site - or even a direct question to them - doesn't state it or they don't reply to the question?

I emailedthe seller and asked for my current skimmer to confirm. (Coralbox cloud 9). I’m soon replacing it with a nyos skimmer which actually has an ozone port so extra safe !

It generally comes down to the type of acrylic. Cheaper ones generally will become brittle over time and the nicer ones tend to be fine. (Cast vs extruded acrylic)

Have a look at my 1st ever protein skimmer made by Sander, Germany. I bought it in 1987. I rubbed the raised letters with a pencil to make it easy to read "Ozonreaktor". The wooden air bubbler turns black much more quickly when running ozone. I still use this skimmer on my QT and fry rearing tank. I paid good money for it at the time so I figure why not use it.

Agree 100% I have been using ozone for 15 years. A big fan of it too.
Thanks for your info on Ozone. Considering dropping an air-stone into my 65 gallon freshwater tank to try to get away with less water changes. Do you think
its safe with just the air-stone ?

The person you are asking has not been on in a few years, but I’d be very wary of just bubbling ozone into any aquarium.
