Observation Tank

I am going to set up a 5 gallon observation tank. I just need some advice on how much cipro should I dose from a 500mg pill? Also, how often should I dose cipro in the observation tank? Should I dose every night? Or should I dose after every water change? I will be doing weekly water changes. Any suggestions or thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Hello!

Are you trying to treat a fish illness, or coral for something like BJD? It's generally not a good idea to indiscriminately use antibiotics anymore, why do you feel that you need them?

I was told that using it kills potential bad bacteria that could be on the coral. It would be used for corals only

I don't think it's a good idea to use Ciprofloxicin as a general dip for corals, but let's get some other input on this:

A lot of people dip corals in hydrogen peroxide, which would also be a disinfectant and should kill bacteria. It's cheap, easy, safe for you and corals, and doesn't add to the overuse of antibiotics that's becoming a real problem.

Agreed with @Fish Fan, would not use for a dip. If you observe them having an issue then treatment in a quarantine tank for a longer period of time would be warranted. For a general dip, iodide or peroxide would be something to check out, but dipping for bacteria is likely a fruitless endeavor. The coral is going to harbor bacteria within its tissue that wont come out with only a dip. Most bacterial issues are overcome by having a healthy tank, and the good outcompetes the bad.
