Holy Moley!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How is it that you hold all the cool jewelry AND cool zoas and palys??? Have you figured out how to put a paly ina ring yet??? <giggle>

On a serious note, if I have some unset finished stones, are you the sort of guy that could set them for me??? I would be so all about that...!

:hello1:
Laurie

That's me. Check my homepage.

No palys in a ring though.:D

Cool stuff David.....I have some Lightning Ridge Sold Black Opals I might have to have you set one day.....I collect lose gem stones when I can, and have acquired a nice collection of Lightning Ridge semi-black & black opals along with other traditional stones opals being my favorite stone. I had one set for my wedding ring..... My wife after she gets pregnant(prayers) her mother is going to give her a 1 carot diamond that has been passed down through the family for who knows how long and I know she wants it set in a custom setting. Maybe I'll have to have you do it, with a rep like that I couldn't go wrong.......

How big does an uncut stone have to be ... to be able to do anything useful with it?

We found a sapphire in NC on vacation once ... at least that is what they told us it is... its five sided and bluish....it's only about .5 inches at its biggest width..if that.... and I have no idea if I should try and do something with it one day.... most of the other stuff we found ... other than pink quartz was smaller than that...

LOL. I kinda feel like I'm hijacking a thread here. I'd obviously be happy to try to answer any questions you might have. Might want to start a new thread.

Here's a piece I just finished with black lightning ridge black opals and diamonds. It's about2.5" tall. Might not be your cup of tea but it was fun to make.

ugh...i had a terrible day at work this morning.

i was reaching for something and my glove and the cuff of my suit got seperated, my wrist was exposed to the open environment and was burned by 300deg live steam.

needless to say. it hurt like hell. they took me to the plant hospital (we have our own hospital at the facility), put burn dressings on all over my wrist/hand. still tingles a bit, but at least i have full function of my fingers. i can type. they told me to resume to light duty work b/c i was able to fill out the paper work at the hospital. so i can type and do paperwork all week long. yeah.....

doesn't look too bad other than my entire wrist is now one large blister. guess i wont be sticking that hand in my tank any time soon! lol :laughing1:

That sucks bud.....Make up a fresh batch and soak it in it......It will burn like hell for awhile but it will help it heal faster. When my brother burned his hands with fire works they made him soak his hands in saltwater to help hasten healing.

Or Rub some dirt on it.....LOL.

That sucks Al. Steam burns are the worst. Being a steamfitter I get some nasty burns. Hurts like hell. Rub some of that burn cream on it. Thats usually the best thing you can do. What were you working on?

yeah, its pretty nasty. couple months ago a co-worker of mine leaned his head up on pipe that had steam tracing wrapped around it. instantly felt it on his neck and it left a good 3inch scar right across the side of his neck. looked basically like some applied a red hot brand to his skin.

acid burns are worse though. i got splashed with acid a while back and a couple drops hit my neck. burned the skin off instantly. felt like frying pan oil at 200deg.

Surfin that sucks. Burns are just terrible period. I hope you're able to get a decent nights sleep. That's usually the hardest part. A few years ago I ended up getting hydrofloric acid on my left thumb. Ended up in and under my thumbnail. Trying to sleep was total mysery.

Good luck and hope you have a quick recovery.

HF?? my goodness...that stuff is deadly. i remember reading that a drop can possibly kill you b/c it absorbs straight through the skin. its not easily stored either because it will melt glass. nasty stuff. what on earth would you use it for?

When you cast platinum the investment(plasterlike stuff) gets so hot it turns to glass. The only way to get it out of the nooks and crannies is to etch it out.

If you use something everyday it sometimes just becomes "stuff" and I lost respect for it. (kinda like fragging palys and zoas) I was too lazy to get the gloves and dropped a piece into the tub and it made a tiny splash and a drop landed on my thumb. I thought I got it all neutralized and a few minutes later realized that I didn't. That led to at least 5 days of mysery. Shots and medication that I think was supposed to change my body chemistry. I don't remember for sure except that it was pink and tasted nothing like pepto bismal.

Anyway, you are never too busy to take precautions.

I feel for ya Surfin,I manage a Propane Co.(yeah yeah I sell propane and propane accesories) I have had several propane burns(-44deg at liquid) instant skin remover. The worst was a hose came off a cylinder about knee high buned the skin from knee to knee inside the thigh goodies and all.It gets you even through your clothes.

Wow, very nice!!!! Was that for a man or a woman? Looks like a fairly big piece.

Yes it is big. It's made to be worn as a brooch or pendant.

If a man likes it then it's a mans piece. ;)
