Hi! I have a 165W vipar on my 90g cube. Honestly, I’d start with just two 165W and play with them. If you feel like you need more light than that, then buy another 165W. I have never read anything overtly positive about a 300w. Most people that use the 165w don’t go over 40% and rarely do I see people go over 60% intensity.
me personally I am at 5% white and 35% blues at this moment in time, but I’m also bad and since I have a cube I don’t want any overspill so my lights sit pretty low (~9”-10”).
Just my two cents!

@alimac122 thanks. I think I have to have 3 for a 6 foot tank, so I think that is what I'll do
Yes, I agree that you should do 3 of 165W lights. I have a 4 foot tank and I'm using 2 of Mars Aqua 165W and it's perfect for all types of corals.

So would 1-165W fixture be enough for a 40 gal cube (22"x22"x22)? Sorry Susan, no intention to hijack your thread here.
Yes, 1 165W fixture is perfect for that size. I have 2 of Mars Aqua 165W for my 4 foot long tank and it’s enough for any type of corals (I have mostly SPS).

Ordered 2 tv mounts from amazon. Hubby has his plan to hang the lights. 2 mounts, supporting a bar which hangs the 3 lights. Won't be adjustable in height b I'll be able to swing lights out of the way

What size tank again? If your keeping stock lenses may want to consider 16 inches if you aren't going to measure par to strategically use the hot spots.

Tank is 125 gal, 6 foot. I have to laugh as I told my husband and he almost came unglued saying Too late! I already designed it. But I think the stand offs can be either cut or he can make longer if we need. Right now, it's all set for 14 inches I believe. He machined the stand offs, so I'm sure he can adjust by making new if we need. All silver/aluminum will be spray painted black. Waiting on more hardware, and he has to machine the stand offs for the lights. That's 12 pcs! 2 are done. We lucked out. studs were almost centered where needed for the tank

So with a 125 might not be to bad because of the short front to back. But yeah with those higher is better. But if it's cut it's cut. Lol

Lights up. 14.5" from water. Love them. not used to so much blue but I'm keeping whites lower for now.

Set them
ch 1 on at 9 blues 60
ch2 on at 10 5%

ch1 off at 9 but may change to 10
ch 2 off at 8

Question to ask: they don't ramp, but wondering if I could set each slightly different.
#1 ch 1 on 830 off 930 ch2 on 930 off 830
#2 ch 1 0n 8 off 10 ch2 on 9 off 10 (just so I have a bit of color before bed)
#3 ch 1 on 9 off 9 ch2 on 9 off 9

would this give a slight ramp effect?

For anyone with these lights, I was able to set all 3 to come on at a different time and go off. So blues come on with middle first, then ea side in turn. Same with ch2. Ch2 also goes off, each light 15 min apart, blues same 2 hrs later. Very happy with the lights.

My corals, after 1 full day were already looking much better and happier! Good recommendation @fishguy242
