Hi folks,

Got a 45 gal tank with plenty of space and hiding spots for the fish.
Already had a couple of Ocellaris, one of them is 3 years old and 1 small maybe 6 months old, the two get along very well. Last weekend got a small Yellow tail blue damsel. Nice little fish and very cheap!

Had the damsel in an isolation box inside the tank for few days, doing good and eating well.
Today finally set him free in the tank.

Of course it started roaming around the clownfish territory and got attacked pretty bad by the big guy.
Now it's hiding under some rocks, probably feeling awful.
Will it have a chance to "learn" and respect the big boss under its own territory before get killed?

Thanks

it will learn in all likelihood - damsels are very good swimmers and hiders, and know how to hold their own. He will likely be fine and learn to avoid the clowns.
Agreed with this statement.

The clownfish is a territorial species that defends its territory from intruders. The damsel is a newcomer that may not be aware of the boundaries. However, with time and observation, the damsel can learn to coexist with the clownfish by avoiding the areas where it is unwelcome. This requires some intelligence and adaptability from the damsel, but it is possible to achieve a peaceful situation.

Thanks for the replies.

Today it's doing better, kind of respecting the space, and less aggression.

Yesterday I testimonied the clownfish biting the crap out of the damsel.

Hopefully at some point they will get along.

I have this exact combo in my tank. When added together there was no issue.

However I also set a tank up for my grandmother, and it came with a breeding pair of clowns. When I added a damsel to her tank it was instantly killed and fed to their anemone. I use an acclimation box when I add fish to her tank now and this seems to solve it.

I know...
The clownfish was biting and shaking it like a shark.
Now it's more calm fortunately.

Updating

Aggression is over, and the new blue guy is now hanging out in the clownfishes territory pretty easy.
Just now it's daring to bother my frags.
But that's a different story hehe
