I've never in my life seen a clam that enjoys getting blasted with 3500 GPH until this thing. I might actually keep it. It keeps going back to the same spot and I don't understand WHY lol

You'd be surprised. We have them all over the place here right in the surf zone on the reef crest....
 
My maximas are in far more flow than I ever thought they would like. It sill surprises me a bit, but they are growing and don't move around so I don't want to mess with what is working.
 
A clam in the wild gets some serious flow but a tank is a little different with constant patterns or no breaks in the constant blasting. If the clam is happy and stays open instead of being retracted I'd leave him be as well.
