The perks to buying a male is you know up front what it will end up looking like, and you don’t have to wait for the transition. Downsides are probable shorter lifespan, and way more expensive. I personally like watching the change.

You are correct, females will almost always transition to males. I bought a female for around $100 before the Hawaii ban and she's already become male.

Rev, while you might be ok as big as your tank is, I wouldn't put more than one fairy wrasse of a species.....just to be safe.

I had a bonded pair, then the female turned into a male. It killed the older Male.

Not Flame wrasses in link but this seller on ebay had pairs as recently as 2 weeks ago. May still have them but not listed. I cannot speak to seller but have been eyeballing the stock of late. Feedback is pretty solid. Cant hurt to ask.
