Old clowns

How long have you had your clown for? There are a variety of opinions about their lifespans. For example, a paper by Buston and Garcia in 2007 estimated that percs may live up to 30 years in the wild! Below is a photo of a bicinctus that I saw in the Red Sea. Based on how recessed and faded its bands are, I am guessing she is a very old lady!

the oldest clown I have had was a cinnamon clown. when I got her the person said they had her for 15 years, I had her for 5 years then she went into a 1500g lagoon tank at a lfs here in maine that was 2-3 years ago.

so she is atleast 23yo and about 8-9"long, 5"tall and almost an inch thick!! if she bit you you would lose the tip of your finger. her chomping on a piece of shrimp was a louder than the smacking sound from a 5" mantis breaking rock/shells

That's crazy! Yeah, if these buggers can live 30+ yrs in the wild, I see no reason why that couldn't be extended even further under captive conditions... Thanks for sharing!

a local shop bought a pair from ora that was a retired breeder. when ora sold them they said that they were 25 years old

Local LFS owner has his original pair of Percula breeders that are over 25 years old...

my oldest clown I've had for about 19 months plus how many more months ORA had it. so I'm guessing she's only 2 yrs old. mine is a still a toddler. :hammer:

I bought a pair that were 8 years old when I got them... I got about 3 years out them then the female died... Male died the next day... No signs of sickness or anything... It was strange like live together die together....:(

thought I would post a pic of a 20+yo clown for size comparison you can see the quietone 4000 pump behind her

gold stripe maroon female is about 12 male is about 4 (she robbed the cradle lol)
also she is just over half the size of the cinnamon clown

Back in the mid 90's I had some false percs live for over 7 years and the last 3 years, I wasnt even living in my parents house. all my dad knew was to do water changes and use a bad hydrometer.
