Hi. I am new around here so sorry if someone has already answered this question. I am looking for input on my mixing station build. I have seen brute builds, drum builds and other various vertical container builds. I saw a brs youtube that showed all kinds of gunk buildup in the bottom of the mixing tank. I am using tropic marin salt but just wondered, is that a real thing and should i get an open top tank or has anyone using closed top tanks had problems? If you have used a 50-55 gallon closed tank, do you regret it?? Thanks for the assist!!

I just mix in brutes so nothing fancy. I keep a lid on. Some salts mix dirtier than others. I use regular IO and it mixes dirty and leaves behind a lot of brownish residue in the bottom. Fish and coral all do well so I don't worry about the dirty bottom.

I keep mine covered all the time. Mini brutes, neer had any issues. Clean out the salt one when I feel like it needs a cleaning, rodi ice maybe cleaned once.

I have 2 of these - 1 for RO/DI and 1 for my Salt Mix. I keep them covered. I also use Tropic Marin and barely notice any build up. Been using this set up for 3 years and maybe clean my salt mixing station 1x a year. Btw - you can get these from Uline

I use 2 of these drums, one for mixing and pumping into the tank with a sump pump and one to take the waste water from my gravel syphon when cleaning. Link below:
