Oregon Mummy Eye.... Im just SICK!!!!!!!

All I did is move the chalice 8 inches lower to take some pics of it. I moved it and left it there for a few days and all of the sudden the whole colony began to look like it was in shcok or something. The tissue starting getting loose and it just bagan to look real bad. I decided before it was to late to try and frag and dip the whole thing. It was almost 3 inches across and now I just have a bunch of smal frags. I hope they make it but I didnt know what else to do and I thought it would be better then just letting the whole thing die.... IM SOOOO BUMMEDDDDDD!!!!!!!

The even sadder part........I didnt get to take a pic!!!!! ARGHHHHHHH

I wonder what happened?? Have you try interceptor dip to save it if the frags don't look too well.

i had a very similar thing happen. I had a very large 10x15 peice of neon green with orange eye which is now called mummy eye. this was well before the chalice craze. it was in my tank for a few years no problem then i moved it on a monday and it was gone by the end of the week. tried to save it but it went down hill much to fast. i feel you pain. I sucks even more now that i know how much it would have been worth lol

I could see if I moverd it to a different tank, but just to think that a sudden shift in light could do that, I mean what if I really wanted to frag it and went to frag it and it happened. Im just hoping at this point the coral frags will pull through. I used the Tropic Marin pro coral cure to dip it.

Look at it this way. You have frags that will most likely make it and the good thing about coral, it grows. You will have another 3" piece before you know it.

Well after a close inspection of all the frags, they appear to be doing just fine. I just made frags from another colony that I had and if I would of known this were to happen I would have kept the bigger piece whole. Yeah, the best way to look at it is if they all survive which it looks hopeful this morning, then it's all good!!!!! But I am still super bummed. Oh well, live and learn.....dont move your corals!!!!! No, sometimes it's a have to.

anyway, maybe the lesson is not "dont move your corals!" but maybe move them, take the pic, and move it back.. :)

Perry - That just does not seem like it would be the cause of the coral dying. I know that you get a lot of coral in and I am sure that they get moved around a lot. If that sudden change in lighting would kill the coral then it seems as if anytime a chalice got moved or went from your tank to a customers tank then it would die. I only have a couple chalices but they get moved from different lighting conditions and spectrum anytime that I frag them or if I just need to move it to make room for something else.

If it were a frag tank or a tank at my warehouse I would agree, but this was not in a frag tank. But rather my 4 year established personal system at my home.

Have you guys ever used melifix for dipping your corals? I've been using it now for about six mths. And swear by it. Started with some micros I had that were receding both colonies bounced right back. If something in my tank looks funny for more than two days a few cups of tank water a cap full of melifix every few days till it looks better. Haven't lost a piece since, if caught before the no return stage. I've used it on everything now here's a pick of my gorgs that weren't opening for over a week. Fifteen minute soak 5 minutes back in the tank. Give it a try. Even with a squirt or too of tropic marin.
