Has anyone made their own oscillating device for a powerhead/wave-maker? What components are needed? I can’t see spending $600 for one.

There are many ways to do this but probably the biggest hurdle is Corrosion Resistance. You could use Servos, lineal actuators, etc. but the packaging could get large and you might even find it was noisy. I'm surprised some of Powerhead Manufacturers haven't designed retrofit kits for their powerheads.
