I noticed the plastic was gone from the sensor is it still safe to use or is there a fix for it? It’s 15 months old

The plastic housing that fits over it helps with fluctuating water levels... ie, if there are small 'waves' and such.
 
Is that a hole in the housing, exposing the internal electronics to water?
*kinda looks like it in the 2nd picture but can't tell for sure
 
When I plugged it back in it shows as solid red. Tried resetting and still the same. I water touching the unit in the sump @rvitko
