OT Wifi booster/extender/amplifier

Just wanted to see if theres any recommendations for these, if they are all interchangeable with whatever router you use etc. I know theres a lot of techy guys here. I'm not one of them.

I have a netgear72 router and do not want to change it as I have apex and don't ever want to have to figure all that out again. But my house is a little large and the wifi is in a corner so the other side of my house gets spotty connection if any.

Maximum cable length of an RJ-45 is 256 feet, connect one of these devices to a cable long enough to get you close enough and you will not need a repeater or switch in the middle.
 
Gotta break it down for me I was lost at about the first line.

Does this connect to a usb on the router itself? Then I have to run a wire to somewhere? If so won't work for me. No wires.

Also I think all the USB ports are used up on my router already. Theres one for apex, to desktop, to modem, and one for solar panels now so I have none left.
 
what is it exactly that you're trying to do I think I understand, a little more for information will help me to make a better determination and give you a recommendations.
 
I just get no wifi signal in my master bedroom. Its about 200 feet away from my wifi with several walls in between. Running cable across my house isn't an option. And since I have no more free usb ports on my wifi router, I can't plug anything into my router anyway.

So I was looking at wifi extenders that plug in to an outlet somewhere in between but reviews were pretty bad. Then I came on the antenna thing in my first post. It says 20 times the range of the original router antenna or whatever if I'm understanding correctly.
 
Just an FYI, the ports on the back of the router are called NIC (network interface card) ports not USB (universal serial bus).

The above device connects to the opposite end, like to the NIC port on the back of the TV then using your home Wi-Fi allows you to connect that device without needing to run a cable (RJ45).

Ok I see so it plugs to the tv... Will that also let me get better signal on my cell/tablet etc when I'm near the tv or only work to help the tv connect??

No, but the one in post #11 will.
 
FWIW, One of the other drawbacks of powerline adapters is that they shouldn’t be plugged into a surge suppressor (the surge suppressor will identify data traveling over the powerline as noise and try to filter it out). It’s easy enough to plug the adapter straight into the wall, versus a power strip, but if you have a whole-house surge suppressor installed in your circuit-breaker panel they will not work. Also older homes wiring is known to cause issue with them.

Additionally:

Power line adapters require grounded electrical receptacles because they transmits data on any two pairs of wires on a three-wire electrical cable: Line/Neutral, Line/Ground, Neutral/Ground, and so on. Non-MIMO powerline adapters have just two-prong adapters, but they deliver much lower performance, as you’ll see in this product roundup, which also contains much more information on the technology.

Cool... Works for me great and is wayyyyyy faster than wifi. My home was built last year so it is new and I will agree that if you have an older home with some sketchy wiring then this might not work for you. The whole house surge suppressor would also be a problem but I don't know of many homes that have one. I think for the vast majority of homes built let's say in the last 40 to 50 years this should work just fine.
 
Nothing is more reliable than a wired connection, Wi-Fi is a shared media source if you take into consideration the amount of devices that you have attached to your Wi-Fi router every time you're trying to do something you're literally cutting/parsing bandwidth by the amount of devices you have connected at any one time.

This is incorrect. The maximum length of a Cat5 or 6 cable is 100m or 328'. Of course this is a standard and the cable will work past that distance but it really depends what kind of bandwidth you are looking to run over that specific cable.

If your house is that large you may want to talk to someone about a wired network in your house. It depends on your modem's speed but with the availability of things these days you may greatly benefit from building a small network and running a few cables.

I just did a quick little project at work and used the wireless bridges and they worked well and the price was very inexpensive as well.

This is incorrect. The maximum length of a Cat5 or 6 cable is 100m or 328'. Of course this is a standard and the cable will work past that distance but it really depends what kind of bandwidth you are looking to run over that specific cable.

If your house is that large you may want to talk to someone about a wired network in your house. It depends on your modem's speed but with the availability of things these days you may greatly benefit from building a small network and running a few cables.
