Hello everyone,

i currently dose 20cc's of Red Sea AB+ on my dosing pump each night for my 120 gal mixed reef. i am wondering if the other options are that i can replace this with that is more cost effective for a coral food that i can place on a pump. it is just becoming expensive.

thanks

Most aminos are expensive. Especially if you do not need refrigeration. I know acropower does not need a fridge and dosed (and might still be beneficial to the entire reef despite being marketed for acropora).

I have a mini fridge set up next to the tank. I keep a 1000ml bottle in it. So it keeps cold

This is going to sound silly, but what about not dosing any aminos for a while and see if you notice a difference?

I dosed acropower for a year and AB+ for 6 months and didn’t notice any difference when I stopped.

Might save some cash this way.
I used to dose it all the time - but didnt really 'see' any difference.

However my Acro's are growing really well, so it 'could' be making a difference - impossible to know for sure.

Personally I think most of us like the feeling of a mad scientist when the dosing it into the tank 😆

I just throw dollar bills in my tank and hope the acros grow fast 😎. I mean it is cool turning your tank green with the AB+…that’s how you know it’s working.

Its the case with so many aspects of reefing though - there is no immediate response that you can pinpoint and say - that made all the difference!

I don't think it's necessary to add Red Sea AB+ every day. I add it 2-3 times a week.

I do 2 a week...I think it's working...my sps frags are growing and starting to color up... but then again, it may be due to dosinbg trace TM A/K, good lighting, flow, and dosing Kalk...

Not sure so we'll see
