oh man, i woke up this morning with the worst neck pain i've ever had!

i've been getting back to the gym lately now that i have the time, and i knew i would be sore this morning, but this is ridiculous.

in the past, i've woken up with pinched nerves/sore necks before, but this is very painful.

i think it happened from a combination of soreness above my shoulder blades from working out, and i decided to sleep on 2 pillows last night b/c i was having some acid reflux (the doc recomended that i do that while i sleep to limit the acid reflux)

i think the 2 pillows put a kink in my neck though, i cant look up at all, and its only comfortable to keep my head tilted down.

i've been wearing one of those cervical collars all day and i'm still in pain, i took some alleve this morning, been using a heating pad and ice packs, with only minimal success to the point at least i can get up and move around now.

i just found some muscle relaxers that i kept for last back problem (lower back problems) so i'm popping a couple of those in hopes it helps out.

any suggestions for pinched nerves/pulled neck muscles??

Neck stretches are delicate... I have issues with trigger points knotting up on the left side of my neck. What i usually do is-sitting straight in a chair, gently pull my chin to my chest (sometimes I'll put my non stretching hand behind my back to keep me straight) and hold for as long as I can pulling as far down as I can without pain (discomfort is a given). Gently release. You can try looking to the side and pulling, too, but you may not have that range of motion. Muscle relaxers and alternating heat and cold are probably your best bet. You probably pulled something last night, but didn't feel it until today and sleeping bad only exacerbated it. Try laying flat on your back in bed and rolling up a small pillow to place under your neck. This helps with alignment, as long as the pillow isn't too big (then it's really uncomfortable). That helps me and usually feels good on the back, too.

well, i passed out for a couple hours from the muscle relaxers, i think they are definitely helping.

i woke up, and while still hurt, i can move my head around more without too much pain.

i think if i keep up my routine of icy hot, heating pad, ice packs, and muscle relaxers i should be ok.

thanks for all the well wishes! :)
