I wanted know if a bulkhead fitting is necessary for the overflow box. I forgot to buy the bulkhead and I was wondering if I could just fit the acrylic tube in there instead.

on the bottom of the box where the water comes out of.Where specifically on the box are you talking about? In most cases, bulkheads are 100% needed.
For that highly recommend bulkhead.....its better for leak prevention and stronger connection then just the tube going in...on the bottom of the box where the water comes out of.
