Overflow Divider Help

I am making a glass divider for my reef tank so I will be able to make an overflow, but I want to have it painted black. I was wondering would I able to take two sheets of glass, paint one side black, and then silicone them together leaving the painted side on the inside. I would silicone all the edges on both sides of this divider into the tank, and then drill through both for the bulkheads. Would this work?

Using something like black vinyl might be a better idea incase there is water penetration. You don't want paint either leaking out OR the water affecting the paints integrity.

Talk to a local glass shop and use black glass.

Ok I think my original idea should be out of the question. It will come to down to either vinyl or if my local glass shop has black glass. Thanks for the feedback.
