Overflow help

[His & Hers. 240 Reef]

So one of my overflows is empty, the water falls to the bottom and goes thru slits in the bottom of the 2" return line and the other overflow is full and pours in the top of the 2" return line. Which one is right?!

The one with the standpipe is right unless you don't mind the noise....

They both have stand pipes. Only it goes in the top of one and in the slits at the bottom of the other. Guessing maybe the one is gunked up at the bottom?

Perhaps the one with slits in the bottom was installed upside down.

BTW, we usually refer to returns as the line(s) coming from the return pump. The ones in the overflow are the drain lines. I'm assuming you mean the drain lines?
