OVERFLOW QUESTION Durso standpipe vs Maggie Muffler

Hey guys n gals I a just got my 75 gal up and running today. It is setup with the Durso standpipe in the overflow. But I am getting sucking and gurgling. Is anyone running the Maggie Muffler. Or does anyone have any pointers on making mine drain SMOOTHER. I am running a hyger dc return pump and I have slowed it down to 30% to help minimize the noise.

I don't think controlling or reducing the flow is the answer. I was able to silence mine with just a hole in the top and an airline stuck it the hole. It may take some number of tries to get it in the pipe at the right depth to quiet things down, but it is doable.

The mufflers work. You can even make your own. Durso is for pure performance and you will likely always have a little noise - this is the cost of making sure that you never overflow or get clogged. However, you should be able to get it down quite a bit to where you can only hear it if you really are listening.

If you want silent, then get a different type of drain.

FIXED.... so for whatever reason there was 2 extra holes and that was causing the loud sucking and gurgling noise. Bought a new 90 elbow drilled 1 little hole on top and POW perfection. Just a nice continuous flow. Without any Annoying gurgling.

I'm gonna take a guess and say this is a marineland/perfecto tank and overflow. I've found that they drill the holes too low on the elbow. Instead of drawing water up the elbow and then down the pipe the water tends to get "sucked" through the holes on the side.

I see you found the fix for the poor design from the manufacturer.

That problem is fixed but I’m still dealing with a lot of bubbles in my sump intake

Does the pipe extend below the surface of the water? It should be an inch or two below

If the doesn't help add a 45 elbow at the end and have it set about an inch below the surface. This helps the water "flow" out of the pipe and not "cash" straight down which creates the bubbles
