Pairing Maldives Regal Angels

Last week I bought a small Maldives Regal Angel from WWC Fish Direct. (Review in Vendor Feedback) Gorgeous fish. I was so impressed that I decided to try something I’ve been dreaming about for as long as I can remember. Pairing up two yellow belly regal angelfish as a mated pair. So I ordered a second one and today I received it and it’s just as gorgeous as the first one and they’re both eating enriched recently-hatched baby brine shrimp with frozen mysis mixed in. Here’s a few pics of them in the 29 gallon QT separated by a piece of plastic canvas. I’ll post updates from time to time. Especially when they get into my 125 and eventually someday my 325.

Two weeks now for the first regal and one week for the second regal and they are both doing excellent. Both eating frozen mysis aggressively. I shut off the little power filter and switch my air pump from the sponge filter to a plain air stone before I feed the enriched baby brine shrimp. I leave it that way for about four hours so they have plenty of time to load up on those tasty little nauplius. Another week and I’ll remove the divider and see what happens.

No real progress. Every time I remove the divider, the larger Regal goes after the smaller one. I’m not going to try that anymore. My solution is going to be when I get my 10 foot long 325 set up. I’ll put one on each side with the divider in the middle as the first fish, and then start adding fish. Then, after all the fish have been added, I’ll remove the divider and let them find each other. I’m also trying to acquire more small Regals and maybe introduce them into the big tank all at once as a harem.
