Hi,

New here, but not new to the salt tank world. We recently got a Papuan Toby and noticed his stomach looks very odd. Picture attached. It looks a little extended and has a brown patch on the bottom. Is this normal? Anything to be worried about? He hasn't eaten much of anything since we got him two days ago.

Update: he is not doing well at all today. Not swimming around and he is staying vertical and positioning himself up against our log. I'm thinking the brown patch on his belly has something to do with him not feeling well? I don't see anything like that on other pictures of these fish..

The issue looks bacterial to me, possibly a result of rubbing on the sand too much.
I would move him to qt and treat with an antibiotic like kanaplex.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately he died overnight. Not sure what it was but I'm thinking he had to be sick from the store. It did look infected to me. Bought him Monday and he died Wednesday. Probably my fault, should have inspected him closer before purchasing.

Sorry to hear.
For now, I would monitor all current fish for any signs of infection, but this sounds like it would have been an isolated incident. Be sure to qt all new fish to prevent the spread of disease.
