I have a BioCube 29 that's going on 11 months old. I've been using Reef Crystals since day 1 and I can't say I have any big complaints with the salt. I do weekly 25% WCs since my coral seem to react to this schedule/amount the best. What i've noticed is almost immediately after my WC, my coral (Euphyllia especially) get crazy polyp extension. My Octo seems to enjoy it the most as this guy gets massive right after. Toward the end of the week, polyp extension is okay/borderline poor. Before the WC, I tested my Alk just to get an idea and it was 8.3. I tested again a few hours after the WC and it rose to 9.1. Am I seeing a positive reaction due to the addition of Alk or is the extension simply a response to clean water, lower DOCs, etc?
I only have 2 small fish in this tank so nitrates haven't rose above 0 in many months. I feed a light amount of LRS once a day so PO4 is also near non-existent. I'm running a Tunze 9001 skimmer and a media basket with floss, Purigen, GFO and ROX carbon. Filter floss gets changed every 3 days.
