I have a FWLR tank what is the best treatment for parasites. Copper right ? Do u steadily dose with copper anyways?
What do u guys think? thanks !!

First, do you actually have parasites right now, or is this just preventative?

Second, you can’t just dose copper in your main tank, it will kill any invertebrates and it’s very hard to dose correctly with rock and sand in the tank.

Third, copper doesn’t treat all parasites. It only works on certain ones, so it’s best to know what you’re dealing with first if this isn’t just preventative.

copper only works for ich and velvet. There is different treatments for different parasites

Our typical protocol is copperssafe or copper power at 2.25ppm in a separate tank monitored with a Hanna brand copper test kit followed with PraziPro at 85% of recommended dose for 8 days, with a water change and one more treatment lasting 8 days

Excuse my comment. I read your post wrong.

First, adding copper to a FOWLR can be an issue. The live rock can absorb copper, and lately, there has been a trend for people to call tanks a FOWLR, but then they add some invertebrates as CUC - and those cannot be exposed to copper.

Another option for a true FOWLR would by hyposalinity - that treats against ich, brooklynella and flukes (not velvet though).

Here is a post about that:

Here is a post that might help you identify the disease issue that you have:

Has the OP ever said what was going in his tank ?
