Does anyone use this sand sold at HD? Been reading apparently it's calcium carbonate?

I use it. It's in my 200g reef, and my 125 fowlr. No issues.

Need to rinse it very well, it's a lot of dust. I spent several hours rinsing it in my driveway. I love the white color, my gobis & conch snails keep it turned over well.

Also I believe it is silica sand. Don't fall into the rumor that silica leaches from silica sand it is simply not true. I have a test kit for silica & all test always indicate spot on or slightly lower than it should be.

I'm worried that silica sand is too sharp for inverts... have you done a vinegar test to see? Going to grab a bag today to try

I have over a dozen wrasses, a bunch of conchs, 2 diamond gobis that sift all day, plate corals, scoly, acans, chalice. Never issues from sand. Any other specific inverts your worried about?

Not sure what the test is your talking about

I can't keep clams but I doubt that's due to the sand. I've had them in rock work& still failed. My kole tang poops this sand out continually, I would think if it was sharp, that would cause problems fastly. People over think things.

It's pretty fine. If it's not we'll rinsed, you'll have problem. I rinsed mine in a large flat plastic drawer. I rinsed it until the water stayed clear even after mixing up the sand. So I was left with only the heavier pieces. I have 2 wp40 & 2 wp25 & a koralia pointing down. The wp all point upwards. No issue with it blowing around. I have a damsel that likes to make a sandstorm clearing under rocks with his tail, but it settles fast.
