I have a general question for you stick heads. Had this PC rainbow for 6 months or so. Got the frag it was fully encrusted on plug. He lives on a magnetic frag rack on the back of the tank. Color seems fine, growth is good but it is all encrusting. question is why is it basing out? Need more flow?

I not sure - but my PC Rainbow coral do the exact same thing

We had a hickup in the main tank where pretty much all the PC Rainbow and Red Planet acro died off from some sort of pathogen. It left alone all other SPS coral - it only effected those two species,. But, as it swept through the colonies, it missed a few branches, which have started to recover.

All of the branches that are now recovering are basing out in the same way. Almost like the growth pattern of a montipora. its very strange.

mine is doing the same, heard that sometimes if you clip the tips it can possibly kick start the growth from the ends .

Mine does that as well. Bases out into the air. I think that's just how it grows.

This. Clip off a tip of the base or even the main tip itself. It will start going vertical.
