So...this is my pectinia. Unfortunately, I didn't inspect it well enough when I bought it. Thought the people I bought it from were good to go. Anyway, not about them. Wen I got home and took it out, I saw the dead part in the back, which is that really dark green/purple piece. Then the tips became obvious. Don't know how I missed it all. There is green algae growing on them. So at the advise of a lfs, I started brushing it off every few days or so with a soft toothbrush. Stil comes back, and the brown and green coloring go away. I have a lot of white exposed, but it doesn't look like skeleton. At least not most of it. There is a newer, bigger piece of what seems like exposed skeleton, however, in the back.
Any suggestions or help with this fella? He looks wicked and evil and I really kind of like it. Thanks....

Oh....I test water weekly. Everything is always good, calcium is dosed twice a week keeping it between 440-480. He's on the bottom with low-medium flow I'd guess.

It looks ok to me, they look like that after shipping or when alk gets low. They do not like low alk, and recover relatively quick but grow slow. If you keep it in the sand, don't let any sand settle on it. Pectina is in my top 3 favorite coral list, they are awesome. I have two, one is about half way up and one is about 4 inches from the bottom.

Should I trim off the dead pieces? They look pretty significant. Probably 1/6th of the total.

I've had tissue on a receded or pectinia grow over the dead part. Don't think it matters if you clip off the dead part or not though. If its healthy it'll regrow what you cut off.
