I'm not sure the water flow will stop without an air brake.

I am using the same principal
I have a small 1/4" hole drilled in the pipe where I want the siphon to break at a given tank level
But this is used at me return

That will work at the drain, sorry had to think there for a minute. But at the high end if it ever looses all the air it will turn into a siphon. Strength of siphon depends on volume and height.
do you have a SMALL hole in the to to allow air to stay up high?

Twilliard the air brake should be easy enough. The 2" may make some noise and for me that's okay. Thanks for joining the conversation.

I'm not trying to reinvent anything. I am trying to hide those overflow boxes, corner drains and ugly pipes people have sticking every where.

I spend time on the DIY board because I think I can help others because of my skill and experience. I dislike a post asking for help and suggestions like this post. The poster already has made up his mind on what he is going to do, so asking for suggestions are a waste of other peoples time. In fact, the only input the poster seems to want is admiration.

I think you can test it by just hanging over the edge of the rim without drilling. BUT..I am like others, I worry that you will loose the airbrake. Maybe just drill your holes up high enough so that with the power off your sump will hold the tank water. Still use the screens, just go full siphon and forget the U-shaped piping. I dont think you would notice the screens if you arranged your rock/coral right.

Kinda like reefmadscientist pictured but without the overflow box. Not to derail your project but ... Xaqua and Oceanlife overflows?

We are hosting a large scale RC race next weekend August 8-9 at my track the Tiltyard. Once this race is complete I will start plumbing this big fellow and be sure to take lots of pictures. You tube Tiltyard for anyone interested in my other hobby.

Homer, I think people are just comparing something "similar" to help them understand what you are talking about. I see people just trying to figure out what you are doing. :)

The RC race sounds fun! You have any videos of your cars?

I am a fan of my Xaquas (picture for comparison purposes only) I think this is pretty unobtrusive in the display...

My goal was no rock touching the glass and I am happy to have that! I love being able to see completely around the rockwork.

what happens when a fish gets in front of the drain and stuck to it? even the tube style screens you put your finger next to them and it blocks an extreme amount of flow.
