Persistent biofilm

I also feel like if I turned the pumps up any more, it would harm my corals and fish.
You want to have a wide flow but not direct. Turn up the flow, monitor livestock for a couple of days and move whatever retracts is unhappy and re locate. You won't harm any fish, they will love a current that alternates from strong/medium/low. Some coral are delicate and require calmer waters where others love a good blast. Any new coral i add in my display i don't fix it in place until i see how it looks after a few weeks. If all looks good then it gets fixed to that location

If you don't mind adding another gadget to your tank, a small electric surface skimmer like this one is small, easy to use, and very efficient. In my experience, flow won't ALWAYS, completely remove or prevent surface film.

Piece of rubbish, if the op lived closer id give him/her a internal surface skimmer...Just saying

Agitate the surface and that biofilm will slowly be dragged into the water column and removed whether you are running a skimmer or using an external filter ie (no sump)

Try the Oase 600. I have had for years and works fantastic. They sell on Amazon. If you do get it no need to use shrimp strainer or clear upper strainer. Trust me the best surface skimmer. I have tried them all over the years.

Hey, don't let distance stop you! There's UPS, PayPal, venmo, driving etc....

Or maybe the $15 pump won't break them and it'll solve their issue like it has on several of my smaller tanks for, several years. Also just saying
