Hello,

This is my first saltwater build. I have been into freshwater for 7 years and decided to try something different.
I decided to make a build thread to show my progress and gain knowledge from this community.
Feel free to follow along. I will have plenty of pictures.

Here is the tank I just picked up:

It's a 60 gallon (48x24x12in) acrylic frag tank from Petco. It also has a rail that attaches to the stand for the included t5 light, but I have that taken off for cleaning.

The sump was filled with hundreds of dried up white worms? Google identified them as "detritus worms."

Everything else is covered in either dust, dried sand, or salt. Surprisingly, the tank doesn't seem to have any scratches.

Thank you for tagging along. I'm looking forward to restoring this tank!

Did petco give it to you for free?! Ive never seen a petco with a frag tank
Same here
It's a long story. I was originally looking for a 24x24x12 cube tank, but couldn't get one because of the glass shortage. After 6 months of waiting this tank popped up on Facebook Marketplace and I couldn't ignore the deal. The guy I bought it from had worked at Petco and was given the tank from the store because they were renovating.

What a great tank! So much potential - I really like it!
Awesome little frag tank! That is a great find! It's going to be the bomb when you are done with the elbow grease!!

Update:

I have finished cleaning out the t5 light that came with the tank. This picture is before I dusted it out:

I got a good look at the ballasts. Are they any good?

I will be replacing the bulbs. I would also like to add led strips, but I will have to find a way to mount them.

This is sweet, i would love a 40g frag tank or smth just so its longer and lower so everytime i look down into it i feel like im at the LFS buying corals which makes us all happy XD
Maybe id put it above my dresser so when I go to pick my outfit in the morning ill see the frags and say "hey i want that one. Oh wait thats right im here for clothes XD"

Woah it looks great!! My petco is moving locations/ renovating. I wonder what they’re doing with their equipment! How much did you pay
Update:

The tank and sump are finally clean:

The bottom of the stand has obviously been neglected. I guess no one cleaned up after the spills!

The corner got the worst of it. I will be patching it up somehow. First I have to start sanding.
