take a water sample to a trusted LFS that does not use API test kits and have them test and see what numbers they come up with for PH and to compare with yours
If they would be accurate- you'll want a small container of Kalkwasser

The attached is from an article by Randy. High CO2 in the home air is just one possible cause of low Ph, not an absolute.

LOL!!! Being dead is a bit dramatic. I could dose acid in my tank and take the pH to 6.5 and use a liquid pH test kit and see results of 6.5 in that moment in time. pH tests are moments in time. I wouldn't be dead. Using the calculations, says that the test wasn't accurate. You guys are awesome!

I am simply stating facts. If you believe your pH is 6.5, your other parameters are fine, your not dosing something lowering you CO2, and you tank is adequately aerated then your tank and in-home CO2 levels are around 32000...and everything would be dead.

Moral of the story is don't believe unrealistic measurements that don't pass a smell test.

I mean, that was basically my point. I think consensus is test error, but you could do any number of things to the tank that would drop the ph that low and it wouldn’t mean the room CO2 is so high everyone is dead.

There is no situation where a otherwise healthy tank has a pH of 6.5.

If you dump acid to lower your pH to 6.5pH...everything will be dead shortly.

It has already been established that since nothing is off w/the livestock it’s a test error.

There is no normal situation in which a fish tank having a ph of 6.5 means that the room air is so high in CO2 everyone in the room would be dead. There are multiple reasons why an actual low ph could happen.

Not in this instance. I’m not sure how you misread what I’ve been saying but I have never even once insisted that there are multiple reasons IN THIS CASE. I said there are multiple reasons in general and that you saying the CO2 in the room WOULD be extremely high (enough to kill ppl) if the ph was 6.5 is incorrect. IF the ph was truly 6.5, then the tank would look it, and there could be numerous causes possible, not just high room CO2.
