Can someone please help me understand PH in my new cycling tank. The tank is a total of 98 gallons with about 80lbs of base rock (not cured) and 100 of black live sand. I'm using the RedSea reef mature kit. My PH can rise to 8.05 and can go as low as 7.73. It's average is 7.89. It is being measured with a lab grade ph probe from Neptune systems that has been calibrated. Please advise.

Thanks in advance!

Is it higher at one time of day than another? Does it change when the lights are off?

I would not worrier one bit about pH on a tank that is cycling...
...the range that you post are 100% normal as you are not dosing anything, air movement across the surface of the tank will help it come up, also opening a window and allowing fresh air to come into the house will help as well... but in the end I would not chase pH.

Don't chase the pH <--good info.

Yah, the swings are normal. I was just concerned about the number but I'll take your advise and stop worrying.
