Ph8's 225 build

Really excited to see how this works out, Ive wanted a pair for years but just never happened. Im like 99% sure the small one is a male and 100% my older big one is a female. I hope she plays nice. Wish me luck.

Very nice Brett! I've always wanted a pair of them for my tank, it always seems like I want this fish or that fish worse though.... I need to just get a pair and be done with it....lol

Man I know, it took me five years to try to pair mine. She used to lay eggs and just carry them around the tank herself.

congrats Brett. having a pair is awesome. I can't wait to get mine back to the DT.

Thanks Marvin and Krista. Im not so sure that this is going too well, she acted like she was gonna be his friend and then she changed her mind and chased him around. He is hiding now, should I wait it out and hope for the best? Im not sure I could catch him if I wanted to.

Yeah Marvin, I'm almost positive this one is a male and my old one is a female, maybe she's just old and grumpy.

I'm not really familiar how the courting process works and how aggressive the aggressor gets. Hope they figure it out soon.

Me either buddy, she's pretty old. Maybe she's past that part of her life.

I've read Banggai's don't have a long lifespan. average age in captivity is 5yrs I think. but I'm sure some have kept them longer. how old is your female and how big/old was she when you got her?

Marvin, my big female is 5 right now. She was a pretty small local bred fish when I got her. The two are coexisting peacefully at this point so Im just gonna ride it out. I would by no means call them a pair at this point but at least she's not trying to kill him.

Here's an awesome update:

I came back from my annual fishing trip to find a large package sitting in front of my tank (Thanks Kerri). My new lighting has arrived, I picked up a used Sfiligoi Genesis 8x80 T5 with 3 rows of cree LED in the middle and is fully dimmable. This light will be replacing my 12x54 Stealth fixture. The old light was only 4' and didn't cover the tank all the way. Here's a few pics of the new light, please excuse the frag racks and acclimation box.

Please give me your recommendations on what setting I should start at % wise while ramping the lights up to acclimate everything and how often I should make changes. Im so paranoid with big changes like these.

I ended up starting the fixture at 60% on the T5s and 30% on the LEDs, you guys think that'll be OK. I plan to make small weekly changes so not to shock any of the SPS.

I would think that's a pretty safe start. How high is the fixture?

Awesome light!

Thanks for the reply, the fixture is currently at about 10" off the water.

Have you seen this? I was really surprised that he is essentially running his LEDs at 20%

No I hadn't seen that but I just watched it and wow some of those numbers were crazy high. Makes me wish I had a par meter. I will say that I would perfectly happy with the lights at 60/30 like they sit now, but I gotta see what happens when I bump them up a bit :), but Ill take my time.

Awesome light!

Thanks Rev!!!!
