Ph8's 225 build

So which do you like better? Vortech or Tunze? :D Sorry had to be the one.

Rev, it's hard to say cause I haven't owned the vortech for very long but I love the difference in flow with the vortech. The under tow it creates is amazing. If I had to make a choice today, I'd say Ecotech has the edge.

IF i have a choice to take one Vortech or Tunze , i'm happy with Tunze :D

What is the name of that fish with the red face on the right?

^^ That is a Psych-head Wrasse (Anampses chrysocephalus). Very cool fish!

Every fish in that picture is spectacular in my book.

Sorry to hear about the losses Brett, but keep your head up. You still have a great collection of fish and a beautiful tank! 1smile1

Thanks Scott, Im slowly getting excited about things again. I even broke out the camera a little today. Im still not great with a camera but hopefully Im getting a little better than the phone pics at the beginning of this thread, LOL. They seem better I just cant get everything focused enough. Ill keep trying.

Elias Stag ( My most troublesome coral to get colored up ) While everything else does great this guy remains brown.

Yeah. Still looking good man. I'm feeling the summer blues coming and golf season is around the corner so the past 2 weeks, I've kinda put the tank on the back burner. But as usual, there's always surprises just when you thought you have things on cruise control. Anyway, keep your head up and I'm sure you'll get the excited feeling again soon. :)

Thanks Marvin. My exciting feeling is coming back this weekend. I got the QT all cleaned up with new filters and Im ready to get back on horse. I'll share details later.

Now that's the spirit Brett! Looking forward to the details...

I know this may be a primitive question but I'm a newbie to the reef world, how long did it take for your liverock to turn purple and did you use kalkwasser?

Tony,
No such thing as a primitive question. Welcome to R2R, Im more than happy to answer any questions I can. The best thing you can do to make coraline algae grow is keep your calcium/Alkalinity/magnesium up. Shoot for around 9DKH alk and 420 calcium and 1350 magnesium. Keeping these levels up and stable and knowing how to test for them will go along way twords keeping corals in your tank too. Some times it helps to seed your tank with a piece of established live rock but IMO it will grow in time without it. There are many products out there geared twords growing this stuff but dont waste you $$$. I do run kalkwasser now but its not really needed to grow coraline but it is a great method of keeping your calcium/alk stable. Some types of lighting also grows better coraline than others, I found it grew the most when I ran VHO's but will grow under most types of moderately strong lighting. It can take a little while to grow but in time it will be so plentiful you will become sick of scraping it off the glass, LOL. Hope this helps, please feel free to ask any other questions you have and I will do my best to answer them for you.

Little update, we did buy some new babies. That eightline on LADD sat there for too long so I had to have it. He's not half as spectacular as the first one I had but he will be some day. Ill get some pics up when I get a chance to break out the camera. While I had free shipping I also had to grab up the orange stripe prawn goby with pistol shrimp. :) Ive always had a soft spot for gobies and all the little stuff that goes in our tanks.

The SPS are looking great but the tank is throwing pest stuff at me left and right to the point I have waged war. Im currently dealing with a little cyano (sucking it out daily, seems to be giving up slowly finally), bubble algae (manual removal as I run across it, Ive beat it before and I will again.) I thought the blue cloves would be OK on an island by themselves and I was wrong, I dont know what Im gonna do with these little suckers yet and if that isnt enough Im gonna finally get around to kicking the xenia out too. Its gonna be a busy month but I will defeat atleast most of these, it could be worse. Im really glad to have some new babies again, in the end the fish are really what keeps me interested.

Brett, we are so glad to hear about the new "babies" and are looking forward to seeing some pics.

Sorry to hear about the "pest situation", but we know you will persevere!

Thanks M&T,
Glad to see that new banner under your name.

Been keeping this lady a secret but she seems to be doing well. I was more hurt about losing the last one than I ever have been about any other fish, so its really exciting to me to see her doing well.
