I just had to do a tank swap yesterday due to bad seam on my old tank. All new sand, and 100% new water. It went well. Fish all look great but I brought water to lfs to test. Nitrates are 52 why would this be after 100% water change. Phosphates are very high also.

Could be dead stuff in the "new sand" if you're using bagged "with live bacteria" etc.

Is there a chance the LFS mixed up the water samples?

I suppose there was live rock that was moved. Anything on it die?

Probably need more information to diagnose.
- Where is the fresh SW coming from
- ^ anything besides fish that was moved (liverock like mentioned above)
- State of the new tank, did it come straight from store, old tank that got cleaned etc.
- Are you using a sump and what is its state etc.

No I was standing with them when they tested.
Doesn't seem like anything on the rock died. But I suppose that could be something. Rocks came out of old tank straight into buckets of water, sat for about an hour then right in to the new.

New salt water came from my lfs. They did the tank swap for me.
Brand new tank, brand new sump.

A couple ideas:

1. You say rinsed the sand in tap water... There could be nitrate/phosphate from that trapped in the sand.
2. The rocks could have a lot of muck embedded that is releasing nutrients into your new water.
Rinsed in tap them last two rinsed were ro/di.
The muck in the rock makes sense I suppose.
