Just wondering how many have used pickling lime for their Kalkwasser. Like this: http://www.amazon.com/Mrs-Wages-Pickling-1-Pound-Resealable/dp/B0084LZU1Q

That product lists "Food Grade Calcium Hydroxide" as the only ingredient.

This is also just calcium hydroxide: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-bulk-kalkwasser-calcium-hydroxide-aquarium-supplement.html

The BRS stuff is actually cheaper per lb (when you don't factor in shipping); just looking for something I can easily pickup from a grocery store until I'm ready to place my next BRS order. :)

Thoughts?

I've used Wages just fine in the past. I normally use whatever I find cheapest at the time. Usually its BRS. But I think the last container I bought was ESV branded.

At least out here in Phoenix, it is getting harder and harder to find Mrs. Wages, which is what I have been using. Wally World is the last place that was carrying it, and at least my store isn't re-ordering it anymore....

I used to use Mrs Wages, but I've been using BRS for a while now. Sam results, but BE A is MUCH cheaper, especially when you're using as much as me (about 15 tablespoons per week). I've unfortunately reached the point where I'm struggling to maintain alk with just Kalk.

BRS has free shipping...on every order

Wow, thanks for the heads up. I hadn't realized they changed that. And thanks to everyone for the affirmation about using Mrs Wages.

Just another +1 to Mrs Wages. I used to be able to nip across the border to Massena or Ogdensburg NY to grab some, but the stores stopped carrying it a number of years ago. (For some reason, the general public in Canada isn't allowed to buy Calcium Hydroxide that is meant for human food products)

I've been using the BRS stuff for the past few years and I've noticed no difference in my tank.
